Could a single-use therapeutic gastroscope improve your patient care?

When a reusable therapeutic gastroscope is in use or temporarily out of commission, you either have to wait for one to become available or make do with a standard gastroscope. This, however, does not have to be the case.

If you answer Yes to one or more of the following questions, it is likely that a single-use therapeutic gastroscope could make a positive difference to your clinical practice.

Five questions to consider about your reusable gastroscope solution

You may find that a reusable therapeutic gastroscope is not available when you need one for an unscheduled, out-of-hours or other time-sensitive situation, such as an acute upper GI bleed or foreign body removal.  While a standard gastroscope may be just fine, it is not necessarily the optimal solution for every situation.

A single-use therapeutic gastroscope, on the other hand, would always be available when high suction performance is critical.

With its unique 4,2 mm working channel, Gastro Large offers approximately 90% greater suction power than the newest 3.7 mm channel therapeutic gastroscope.

Flexible endoscopy has been advancing rapidly in the area of minimally invasive therapy and surgery.  However, when you don’t have access to a therapeutic scope with a large working channel, you can’t always take advantage of the optimal tools.

With a large enough working channel, you would not have to settle for smaller and suboptimal tools, and you could potentially aspirate while they are inserted.  What’s more, a larger working channel would provide a platform for device manufacturers to develop new and innovative tools and treatment options to improve patient care, which you could also take advantage of.

With its unique 4.2 mm working channel, aScope Gastro Large lets you take advantage of the optimal tools.

It is not always desirable to move vulnerable ICU patients from the ICU to the Endoscopy unit for treatment. Conversely, moving equipment and setting up in the ICU costs you time and puts a burden on your staff. With a convenient single-use solution, however, it is simple to move your therapeutic gastroscope solution to the patient.

The lightweight aScope Gastro Large and compact aBox 2 endoscopy system is easy to take with you and convenient to set up in any clinical environment.

Reusable endoscopes are used multiple times every day and are continually subjected to rigorous reprocessing.1 This leads to wear and tear of the inner and outer surfaces and degradation of mechanical performance.

With a single-use therapeutic gastroscope, however, you have a new scope for every procedure. So there is no deterioration. Nor do you have to worry about how damaging an endoscope might affect repair costs and workflow with a scope out of commission.

With aScope Gastro Large, you get a new scope for every procedure.

In a recent US survey of 100 GI endoscopists, cost was among the top reasons for why they don’t use a therapeutic gastroscope. So how does the cost of a single-use solution compare? While this depends on factors, such as your local setup and volume of procedures, a single-use solution can save your hospital money when it considers the big picture.

A reusable gastroscope requires a long list of ongoing resources, which aren’t always immediately obvious. For example, cleaning before and after every procedure uses personnel time, machine energy, administration and cleaning materials. Repairs and maintenance of endoscopes and reprocessing machinery also have costs attached and can involve long and complex binding service contracts.

Conversely, a single-use gastroscope has a relatively low initial capital investment, and it eliminates all the costs and resources associated with cleaning, service and repairs. Furthermore, the potential price associated with treating any infections caused by cross-contaminated reusable endoscopes become a non-issue when using a sterile single-use gastroscope.

aScope Gastro Large has a relatively low initial capital cost, and it eliminates reprocessing.

The world's first endoscope with bioplastic

A signficantly lower carbon footprint

Advancing the area of sustainability is one of our company's four strategic pillars. One tangible example of how we are paving the way in sustainability for single-use endoscopy is by introducing the use of bioplastic material in our endoscope handles. From the user’s point of view, there will be no difference in the look, feel and performance of our endoscopes. In terms of sustainability, however, it is a significant step forward, and one which aligns with Ambu’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Learn how the world's first gastroscope with a bioplastic handle reduces our environmental footprint.
